GS Alumni

Georgia Southern University Alumni & Friends Tour to Ireland 2023

The Georgia Southern Alumni Association is delighted to continue our partnership with Club Choice Ireland and Georgia Southern’s Center for Irish Research & Teaching for our second annual Alumni and Friends tour.

The tour is curated specifically to highlight the Savannah and Ireland connection and Georgia Southern’s Wexford Campus.

The tour will include joining our Georgia Southern students studying abroad and exploring the Wexford-Savannah Axis. The tour will also highlight the Georgia Southern-Wexford campus, our first overseas campus which opened in November 2019.

Establishing lifelong relationships with alumni, students and friends is at the core of our mission. We hope that this trip will not only offer a wonderful educational opportunity but also allow Georgia Southern alumni and friends to come together and explore common connections.

Join us next summer as we explore Ireland’s connection to Georgia Southern, Savannah and the great state of Georgia.

Ava Edwards, Director of Alumni Relations, Georgia Southern University

The 2022 GS Alumni trip to Ireland was truly the trip of a lifetime!  We were treated to so many special events like a reception at Johnstown Castle with the mayor of Wexford, lunch at the Irish Parliament dining room, and a private tour of a replica of the ship that brought Irish immigrants to Savannah from Ireland over 100 years ago.  But the highlight of the trip was seeing the GS campus in Wexford and meeting the students who did presentations on their research.  GS’s Director of Irish Studies, Dr. Howard Keeley was the most knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide. GS’s Director of Alumni Relations Ava Edwards made sure that even the smallest details were taken care of so that our trip was as enjoyable as possible. And our fellow travelers are now dear friends.

If you’re interested in Ireland or are interested in educational travel, this trip is for you!

An Irish Experience Like No Other
Take in the sights, sounds and history of Ireland’s Ancient East.

The Georgia Southern Alumni & Friends Tour to Ireland is a unique 8-day experience which has been personally tailored to showcase the deep connections that exist, both past & present, with this particular region of Ireland and Savannah / GS. We will explore Ireland’s Ancient East, dine in local award winning restaurants, enjoy genuine Irish hospitality and visit the recently opened GS Global Hub located in the historic coastal town of Wexford.

Tour Dates: 3rd – 11th June 2023

The tour has been designed to coincide with the GS Honors Students’ annual study abroad program in Ireland. This means that as Alumni, you will experience first hand the research the GS students are leading. Guests will depart the USA on the 3rd June, landing in Dublin on the 4th June (flights to be arranged individually) where our tour begins. Departure for home will be from Dublin on the 11th June, landing into the USA that same day.

Given past experience of delayed flights and jet lag, both GS Alumni & Club Choice Ireland would highly recommend that, if possible, guests fly into Dublin at least 1 day earlier (i.e. depart on 2nd June, landing on the 3rd June). You could tie this into a few extra days in Dublin (or further afield) and then meet back up at Dublin Airport on the 4th June where the official tour begins.
